Well, this is new!

These people seem to have taken it into their head to pitch camp on the Oatlands Stray - basically, a canvas bungalow that they could live in for a week. I really wonder what, if anything, the local authority plans to do about this. I took these pictures at 6 p.m. this evening, 6th September. I'll check tomorrow to see if it's still there.

Apart from this, everything's fine. It feels like the start of term, with plenty of activity, and the Stray looking busy and sunny, and brilliant. What a pity people can't just have fun instead of doing things that any fule no are not likely to be allowed (and if you don't know where that quote comes from, you're just too young).

  1. Yet again I have written to the Head of Parks at HBC asking for his help on several issues:
    Grass verge parking
A display board showing the history of the Stray, suggested walks and the laws and bye-laws.
The "mud wrestling" area that was formed on Oatlands Drive Stray 3 months ago.
Camping and "full on" car parking.
Moving the Fair nearer to the town centre and making the visitors use the pay as you stay car parks in town. That way the Fair will be easier to access from the town centre, car parking revue will benefit and town centre shops, cafes, bars and restaurants might benefit too.
I also sounded him out about a huge project to improve a part of the Stray and save the Council a large amount of money.
